PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO PLACE ORDERS YET. 

Our online ordering system is almost ready, but we are still in the testing phase. Orders placed now will not actually go through, you will not be charged, and you won't get the books you wanted, and that is very sad.  Until we get the training wheels off, go ahead and take a look around and get a feel for the place.  

We will announce our "live" date very soon! 

 

We love our new website and we hope you will, too. Your being able to browse and buy through this site will allow Book Stop to keep our "doors" open 24 hours a day, which will allow you to shop for books in your skivvies at 3 in the morning, which is better than coming into my store in your underwear at any time of the day.

 

But, as magical and shiny as technology can seem, it just cannot do everything, and falls short of human ability in many situations.  That's why we are here; to answer your questions and read your mind to help you find what you didn't even know you wanted. So, while none of us wants to mind the store at 3AM (or frankly, see you in your Underoos), it is our responsibility to remind our valued customers to be aware of how things work here online.  

Online Ordering: The Truth

 

There is no magical delivering "Book Fairy". Really. 

This is how online ordering really works.

 

IF YOU WANT TO PICK UP YOUR ORDER IN THE STORE:

First, please be aware that, while we have a lot of new and used books on the shelf, and while you are able to choose any book in our vast online database of titles and then pick it up in the store, we simply DO NOT HAVE 2.5 million titles here in our 1,700 sq. ft. store. So, if you choose a particular title, and choose to pick it up in the store, PLEASE do not come immediately to the store after placing your order. There is, alas, no "Book Fairy" to whisk your book onto our special order shelf on a glittery rainbow.  We will have to look at the order, and let you know if it can be shipped right away. Most titles that are listed as "Usually ships in 1-5 days" can be here in the store for pick-up in 1-3 days, just like always! And don't worry...we will call or email you immediately as soon as your order arrives.

 

IF YOU ARE ORDERING BOOKS TO BE SHIPPED:

Like other online retailers, we offer you the ability to place orders for books online, enter a credit card, and arrange to have those books shipped to you or someone else. However, not all 2.5 million titles in the database are readily available to be shipped. If you are placing an order to be shipped, please keep the following in mind: Unless a book is listed as "Usually ships in 1-5 days", your order will likely be delayed. A book that is listed as "Special Order", "Coming Soon", "Not Yet Published", or "Out of Print" is one that is NOT currently available from the distributor that we use most often to obtain books.This means that in order to fill such an order, we will need to look into other distributors, or to the publishers themselves. The more places we have to look for the titles, the more the order will be delayed. And some of these books, while listed in the database, are simply not available anywhere. Please be prepared for the remote possibility that all or part of your order cannot be filled. The best way to know for sure is just to call us.  We will be happy to check to see if your book is available and, if it is, when you can expect it to arrive.

Our Family's Bookstore

This is our bookstore. Come on in. 

Book Stop is a family owned and operated bookstore, located in the heart of Historic

 Downtown Hood River, Oregon. Nestled between Mount Adams in Washington and Mount Hood in Oregon, Hood River is located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. 

At Book Stop, we offer a blend of new and gently used books in a spacious and relaxed atmosphere, including comfortable seating areas where customers can relax while they make their crucial reading decisions.

 

The Hood River area is rich with some of Oregon's best restaurants, art galleries unique shopping and, of course, there are at least four coffee shops within walking distance of our store. (We don't serve coffee at Book Stop,but if you'd like to bring us a cup, that's just fine with us.)

 

Our Kid's Corner is filled with reasonably priced new and used

children's books and bean bag chairs and cushions where our littlest customers can lounge while reading. We also have coloring books and crayons at our children's table to keep them entertained while you browse.  

So, walk through our doors and enjoy the bookstore you always imagined you would open. Let us help you, or not, when you just want to look around.  We'll make sure that if you don't leave with a great book in your hand, you'll at least leave with some great ideas.
